What you’ll do:

Based in Gobe, PNG, the E&I Technician maintains and troubleshoots Process Control Instrumentation across Well Heads, Processing Plants, remote communication sites, Valve Stations, and the Kumul Marine Terminal.

You’ll work closely with Production and engineering teams to support daily production targets and provide technical support to contractors on operational and HSES matters.

This is a 28:28 FIFO role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair breakdowns on all instruments and electrical equipment using proven techniques to identify and fix faults.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior local instrument technicians to build their skills and ensure successful task completion.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair gas-fired equipment across the project.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair various oil and gas meters, including hardware repairs, meter configuration, calibration, and security.
  • Verify and monitor programmable logic controllers (PLCs), adjust programs, troubleshoot event sequences, and reprogram as needed.
  • Assist the instrumentation system administrator with programming, maintenance, and repairs of the distributed control system.
  • Plan and conduct preventative maintenance inspections on all instrumentation equipment, coordinating schedules and documenting findings.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain ESD, smoke, thermal, and gas detection systems, performing functional tests and fault isolation.
  • Install new instrumentation equipment, including detailed layouts, point-to-point drawings, material procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with Santos Management System (SMS), Delegation of Authority (DOA), and Corporate Governance and Safety standards.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience as an Instrument Technician in a similar industry, demonstrating practical skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Practical knowledge of basic instrumentation and process control.
  • Experience working in Oil & Gas or Mining industries, familiar with plant processes and equipment.
  • Competent in repair, installation, and calibration of Process Control Instrumentation.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret basic Instrument/Electrical and pneumatic loop drawings.
  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

Ideally, you’ll hold an Electronics or Instrumentation Trade Certificate or be a Licensed Electrician cross-trained as an Instrument Technician with relevant certification.
