World Vision International Papua New Guinea (WVIPNG) has exciting opportunity for those of you who want a change and want to become part of a dynamic team. We are currently looking for suitable, qualified, experienced, and highly motivated professional to fill the role of Education Officer - X3 to be based in Lae, Morobe Province, Hagen , Western Highlands Province & Central Province.


PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to oversee grant implementation and operational activities within Morobe, Western Highlands and Central provinces for the UNICEF Smarter and Safer Schools (3 S) project, delivered by World Vision Papua New Guinea

The role is responsible to supports the design, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the Smarter, Safer Schools project, ensuring that schools are safe, inclusive, resilient, and supportive learning environments. The role focuses on integrating life skills education, child protection, school safety, and risk-informed education planning to improve education outcomes for children and adolescents.


MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Planning and Implementation

  • Support the planning, implementation, and scaling of the Smarter, Safer Schools framework in line with UNICEF education and child protection strategies.
  • Coordinate life skills education interventions that promote safety, resilience, wellbeing, citizenship, and positive behavior.
  • Support schools in integrating school safety, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, and child safeguarding into school plans and practices.

Life Skills and Child-Centered Education

  • Promote and support life skills education (SEL, life competencies, health, safety, digital literacy, citizenship).
  • Strengthen child participation, student leadership, and peer-led initiatives within schools.
  • Ensure gender-responsive, inclusive, and disability-sensitive approaches are applied in all activities.

Capacity Building and Technical Support

  • Provide technical support and training for teachers, school leaders, education officers, and partners on:
    • Smarter, Safer Schools standards
    • Life skills education methodologies
    • Child protection in schools
    • School safety and preparedness
  • Develop and adapt training materials, guidelines, and tools consistent with UNICEF frameworks.
  • Support mentoring and follow-up to ensure quality implementation at school level

Partnerships and Coordination

  • Work closely with government counterparts, schools, communities, NGOs, and development partners.
  • Support coordination between education, child protection, health, and emergency sectors.
  • Engage communities, parents, and youth groups to strengthen ownership and sustainability of interventions

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Support monitoring of project activities, indicators, and outcomes related to safer and smarter schools.
  • Collect, analyze, and document lessons learned and good practices.
  • Contribute to donor reports, progress updates, and knowledge products.

Equity, Safeguarding, and Accountability

  • Ensure all interventions uphold Child Safeguarding, PSEA, and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) principles.
  • Promote equity-focused and rights-based approaches, prioritizing the most vulnerable children.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to safety, protection, and inclusion in schools.


EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree in Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, Child Development, International Development, or a related field.
  • At least 2–5 years experience in education programming, life skills education, child protection, or school safety.
  • Experience working with schools, teachers, and education authorities.
  • Experience in UNICEF, UN, NGOs, or development projects is an asset.
