Electricial and Instrumentation Technician
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Dirio Central Province Power Station (DCPPS) and the maintenance of all Electrical and Instrumentation equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, best practices, and any active operating directives.
The position of the Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technician provides support for all types of measuring and controlling devices and electrical equipment for power plant systems including, but not limited to; motors for motor driven equipment, control valves, compressors, gas turbines, piping system monitoring equipment and components, cooling and heating systems, transmitters, sensors, and testing/troubleshooting plant electrical issues and faults.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develops and follows operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
- Works with equipment which includes gas turbines, gas reducing plant, diesel engines, emergency generators, control systems, electrical switchgear . plc’s, communication systems, water treatment systems, air compressors, fans, motors, and pumps.
- Ensures that safe systems and permits to work are prepared and appropriate safety lock out tag out procedures are followed.
- Report any defects, worn components, issues, and concerns to the Plant Manager.
- Maintain a safe working environment and good housekeeping practices of plant and work areas.
- Read and understand electrical single line drawings and electrical drawings, work from specifications, and follow instructions both written and oral.
- Perform other duties as requested, as well as all reasonable requests from the O&M Lead and Plant Manager.
- Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment, instrumentation and systems within the power plant.
- Identifying and diagnosing electrical faults and issues.
- Conducting routine inspections and tests on equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Implementing preventive maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime and ensure optimal performance
Qualifications and Experience:
- 5+ year’s relevant experience in similar roles in the Electrical, Controls or Power Generation industry.
- An Electrical qualification and a Technical College Qualification.
- Experience with High Voltage Switchgear, Generator Turbines and control system instrumentation a benefit.
- Ability to work as a member of a team with the confidence to work alone when required.
- A good standard of written and verbal communication skills.
- To be familiar with Power Plant Control Systems, Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), MS Office applications, and general computer use.
