The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mine Technical Services Department as Engineer – Production Open Pit.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Engineer – Open Pit, the Production Engineer is responsible for supporting daily production activities, short- to medium-term mine planning, drill and blast coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations. He/ She will work closely with operations, geology, surveying, and maintenance teams to optimise mine performance and achieve production targets.

In this role, you will:

• Develop and monitor short-term mine plans and production schedules.
• Coordinate daily and weekly mining activities to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
• Provide technical support to operations, including drill and blast designs, operations optimisation, and haul road design.
• Monitor mining performance and analyse production data to identify improvement opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with mine plans, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
• Conduct reconciliation and reporting on production, equipment utilisation, and mining progress.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control activities.
• Liaise with contractors and operational personnel to support production objectives.
• Participate in continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
• Maintain accurate mine planning and reporting documentation.
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
• Minimum 4 years of experience in Open Pit
• Familiarity with mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched, or similar.
• Understanding of drill and blast practices, production scheduling, and mining methods.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Commitment to NPL safety leadership and operational excellence.

Preferred Skills

• Deswik software proficiency
• Exposure to mining fleet management and production reporting systems.
• Knowledge of statutory mining requirements and safety legislation.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
