The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mine Technical Services Department as Engineer, Medium Term Planning – Open Pit.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Engineer – Mine Engineering Services, the Medium-Term Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining medium-term mine plans that optimize production, safety, operational efficiency, and economic performance. The role bridges long-term strategic planning and short-term operational execution, typically covering planning horizons from quarterly up to 2–5 years.

The engineer works closely with geology, operations, drill and blast, survey, geotechnical, and processing teams to ensure achievable and practical mine schedules aligned with business objectives.

In this role, you will:

• Develop and maintain medium-term mine plans, production schedules, and sequencing strategies.
• Generate rolling forecasts for ore and waste movement.
• Prepare designs for pit stages, pushbacks, stopes, haul roads, dumps, and stockpiles.
• Familiarity with mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched, or similar.
• Ensure plans align with life-of-mine strategy and annual budget targets.
• Optimize mine extraction sequences to maximize value and operational efficiency.
• Conduct mining studies and trade-off evaluations.
• Analyze production performance against plan and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor mine productivity, dilution, ore loss, and equipment utilization.
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
• Typically 3- 5 years of mining engineering experience.
• Experience in open pit andor underground mine planning.
• Exposure to medium-term scheduling and operational mine planning.
• Experience with production forecasting and mining optimization.
• Familiarity with mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched, or similar.
• Understanding Life of Mine Planning and experience in sourcing and developing input to same.
• Geological modelling, mine planning & scheduling software packages.
• Extensive Open Pit Mine Planning experience (short term to medium term)
• Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
