About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Lihir fishing and boating clubs provide access to pristine waters and beaches, while our onsite deli and café serve fresh local and imported produce, barista-made coffee, and freshly baked goods.

Purpose

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an Operational Readiness Engineer to join our high-performing team at Lihir. This is a Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) role on a 21:21 roster.

Essential Duties

• Planning & Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive operational readiness plans and checklists.
• Documentation & Procedures: Create, update, and manage operational manuals, maintenance procedures, and technical data.
• Training & Competency: Ensure operational staff are trained and competent to operate new assets.
• System Validation: Verify that maintenance systems (e.g., CMMS, SAP, MOC), IT infrastructure, and spare parts are in place.
• Risk Management: Identify, track, and close operational gaps, managing risks to prevent startup delays.
• Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and operations personnel for a seamless handover.

Training & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field.
  3+ years of experience in project management, maintenance planning, engineering or commissioning.
• Demonstrated experience with SAP.
• Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
