The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for Engineer, Development – Mine Engineering Services Underground (234839)
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, the successful candidate is responsible for planning, coordinating and optimizing the development of underground mine infrastructure, including declines, lateral development, ventilation raises, and ore access drives. This role ensures development works are completed safely, efficiently and, and in alignment with operational and long-term mine plans.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain short- and medium-term underground development plans and schedules
- Work closely with operations, geology and ventilation teams to align development priorities
- Design mine infrastructure layouts, including headings, crosscuts, refuge chambers, sumps and electrical installations
- Monitor development progress and provide engineering support to operations for continuous improvements
- Optimize drill and blast designs, excavation sequencing and ground support standards
- Assist in the preparation and review of development budgets and forecasts
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and statutory regulations
- Analyze operational data and performance metrics to recommend improvements
- Contribute to risk assessments, hazard identification and implementation of control measures
- Collaborate with contractors and internal teams for project execution and problem – solving
- Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and health & Safety Policy.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in mining engineering or related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of experience in underground mine development (hard rock preferred)
- Proficiency in mining software particularly Deswik
- Strong understanding of ground control, ventilation, dewatering, and drill & blast principles
- Experience with mine planning and scheduling tools (e.g., EPS, MS Projects)
- Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license; underground mine competency (e.g. First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation.
