The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for Engineer, Senior – Medium Term Planning (232954)

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Engineering Services - Open Pit, the Senior Medium Term Planning Engineer is responsible for producing a safe, quality and executable Monthly rolling schedule that align with the budget plan. This is to be completed through detailed planning, stakeholder engagement, understanding of the budget schedule, LOM capital projects and costs, dump construction and long-term strategies. The senior planning engineer work closely with the short-term planning team giving guidance to the 13 Weekly rolling plan and ensures that the most efficient plan can be developed, and these include the Blast Master process and monthly reconciliation process (spatial compliance to plan). The senior medium term planning engineer also ensures that all risks to plan is identified and communicated to key stakeholders and develop actions to mitigate such risks.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop optimal medium and long term mine plans, including materials management, pit design and staging, waste dump design and development, pit drainage, equipment requirements etc.
  • Perform risk analysis of the mine plan and cost models to determine the probability and sensitivity of the mine plan to variances.
  • Ensure the regular review of mine planning processes and investigate, assess and where appropriate, trial new methods or technology.
  • Develop and monitor targets for improvements in mine planning service delivery.
  • Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plans to achieve these gains.
  • Coordinate and manage projects within area of accountability, to achieve completion to agreed quality, budget and schedule.
  • Develop project proposals for submission to MTS Superintendent or Manager.
  • Assist in preparation of AFE’s for any capital projects within area of accountability.
  • Review and monitor all safety, service level and financial performance indicators for the function and initiate corrective action where necessary.
  • Regularly report to MTS Superintendent and customers on project progress against targets.
  • Provide training and coaching to all team members, with specific attention to National and Local employees as part of the Company’s Training and Localisation Plan.
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.

  • Recognized tertiary qualifications
  • Ideally have IEPNG and AusIMM membership
  • Provides clear and supportive leadership to team.
  • Understanding Life of Mine Planning and experience in sourcing and developing input to same.
  • Experience in developing the role-specific knowledge of less experienced engineers.
  • Geological modelling, mine planning & scheduling software packages.
  • Extensive Open Pit Mine Planning experience (short term to medium term)
  • Significant medium term to long term mine planning experience, with involvement in a senior open cut planning role
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
