The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for Engineer, Senior -Mine Engineering Services Open Pit (234468)

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent - Open Pit Engineering, the Senior Production Engineer Open Pit applies and monitors open pit production planning systems and drill and blast engineering systems, to enable achievement of the mine plans. This position is required to coordinate with other Planning functions, Technical Services groups (Geotechnical, Drill and Blast, Survey, Projects and Underground Engineering) and Geology Teams as part of the overall Technical Services and MRM team.

In this role, you will:

  • Developing practical production plans that align with strategic objectives and optimize ore extraction
  • Monitoring production performance
  • Collect and analyse information to assess performance statistics, statutory requirements, systems efficiencies and business improvement initiatives. Recommend systems improvements.
  • Support the Long-Term Planners in the sourcing, development and integration of all inputs to the monthly & 13 weekly plans and Budgets, Forecasts & Life of Mine Plans
  • Ensure the outputs from the planning horizons contain all the information in consistent and aligned formats that are required for Plan-Do-Review cycle. Assist Planners with communication of the Plans in such formats.
  • Take a leading role in the implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects, including the development of Standard Operating Procedures for these initiatives.
  • Undertake data analysis of production data to identify improvement opportunities, and once identified carry out financial studies for justification. Prepare AFE's as required for the approved opportunities.
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety and Environment Policy and all related rules and procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.

  • Tertiary Qualification in Mining Engineering.
  • Extensive Open Pit Mine Production experience
  • Membership of AusIMM and Engineers PNG (IEPNG)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience (with minimum 5 years as a Senior Engineer) in mine production planning and drill and blast engineering within large open pit environments.
  • Proficiency in mining technology and heavy equipment, advanced skills in mine planning software (preferably Deswik), strong computer skills, excellent Knowledge of open pit mining technology and heavy production equipment
  • Understanding of Life of Mine Planning and experience in sourcing and developing input to same
  • Experience in conceptual studies on ore bodies and Reserve estimation and modelling
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
  • High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG.
