ENGINEERING MANAGER – FMCG

Location: Lae, Papua New Guinea | Full-Time

Lead engineering and maintenance operations within a major FMCG business in Papua New Guinea.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Engineering Manager to join an established FMCG organisation based in Lae, Papua New Guinea.
This senior leadership position will be responsible for overseeing engineering, maintenance, asset reliability and continuous improvement initiatives across a diverse operational environment.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness and proven leadership capabilities, with the ability to drive operational efficiency, improve equipment performance and develop high-performing engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring plant reliability, operational efficiency and equipment availability.
• Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance strategies to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, providing technical direction, coaching and professional development.
• Oversee engineering budgets, maintenance expenditure and cost optimisation initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement, operational excellence and asset lifecycle management.
• Manage engineering projects, equipment upgrades and capital improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee contractor performance, spare parts inventory and maintenance management systems.
• Work collaboratively with operational leadership to achieve production targets and business objectives.

Skills & Experience

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or a related Engineering discipline, or equivalent technical qualifications.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in FMCG or manufacturing, including at least 5 years in an engineering or maintenance leadership position.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams.
• Strong background in plant maintenance, reliability engineering, asset management and continuous improvement.
• Sound knowledge of preventative maintenance systems, CMMS and engineering best practices.
• Experience managing operational budgets, contractors and engineering projects.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, GMP, HACCP and workplace safety standards.
• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience working in Papua New Guinea or other developing markets would be advantageous.
