Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking Experienced Operators to join our team at our Simberi Operations. This is a FIFO position, working a 14/7 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor Mining Operations, the successful candidates are required to operate ADT trucks (CAT740, CAT745, VOLVO A60H), Excavator (EX1200), CATD8 Dozer and CAT980 Loader with primary focus on safety, environment, development, and production to achieve targets in a safe and timely manner. There will be opportunities for further developments.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

• Operating heavy mining equipment primarily trucks CAT740 and BELL50 (including other equipment if qualified).
• Shift work, 12-hour shifts rotating between day and night shift.
• Able to perform Prestart inspections & post inspections of relevant equipment.
• Complete proper documentations (Take 3, hazard ID, etc…)
• Report all unsafe acts, hazards, and incidents.
• Communicate improvement ideas to the team.
• Adhere to site policies and standard operating procedures.
• Other duties as may be required.

Scheduling accountabilities

• Aim for and prove continued improvement towards nil environmental, safety or other incidences.
• Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements.
• Ensuring personal development in existing role.

Essential

• Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
• A valid class 7 PNG Drivers licence
• Grade 10 Education Certificate
• Have more than 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a mining industry
• Be safety consciousness

Desirable

• Good written, oral, and organisational skills that works with diligence
• Good observation and listening skills
• Strong operational skills and be able to work as part of a team in a demanding work environment
