FABRICATION WORKSHOP MANAGER

Atlas Steel PNG is PNG's largest steel manufacturer and distributor, with more than 50 years of history supplying the construction, mining and infrastructure sectors. We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Workshop Manager to lead our fabrication operation.

The Role

You will manage the safe, efficient and profitable running of the fabrication workshop, from estimating and job planning through to production, quality, delivery and site installation. You will lead and develop the workshop team and work closely with the Reo Manager to deliver complete steel solutions to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate, competitive estimates and quotes from drawings and specifications
• Plan, schedule and allocate work to meet production targets and client deadlines
• Carry out site measure-ups and supervise installation of fabricated steelwork
• Ensure work meets drawings, AS/NZS 1554 and AS 4100, and client specifications
• Manage QA documentation, ITPs and non-conformances
• Lead, mentor and develop supervisors, tradespeople and apprentices
• Monitor job costs, raise variations and report to management
• Maintain a strong safety culture in the workshop and on site

Requirements

• Trade Certificate in Boilermaking / Metal Fabrication, or equivalent
• Minimum 7 years' fabrication experience, including 3 years in a supervisory role
• Proven estimating and quoting experience
• Strong knowledge of welding processes (MMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW)
• Ability to read engineering drawings and weld symbols
• Working knowledge of reo cutting, bending and scheduling
• Strong leadership, planning and communication skills
• Valid PNG driver's licence

Desirable

• Welding Supervisor certification
• Frontline Management or equivalent qualification
• Experience in construction, mining, oil & gas or infrastructure
• First Aid certificate
