Position Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of all company infrastructure, buildings and grounds across the PNG network. The core function of this role is to ensure operational continuity, regulatory compliance (PNG building codes, safety laws), and the physical safety and security of all assets and personnel in a demanding environment. This requires proactive planning, robust contractor management, and strong leadership of the local maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Safety and Compliance (Mandatory PNG Focus)
- Pioneer and enforce robust Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards within the maintenance team, ensuring full compliance with the PNG Employment Act and relevant OHS regulations.
- Oversee all site-specific security systems and infrastructure (fencing, gates, lighting, surveillance) to protect high-value logistics assets from external threats.
- Ensure meticulous record-keeping and documentation of all maintenance and safety checks for audit purposes (internal and external/ISO).
Infrastructure Management and Resilience
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance (PM) programs for all core facility systems, including complex industrial electrical systems, generators, water storage, and plumbing, addressing the risks associated with unreliable public utility services.
- Oversee the structural integrity and repair of warehouse roofing, concrete slabs, specialized loading docks, and yard surfaces, which are frequently stressed by heavy logistics traffic and tropical weather conditions.
- Manage waste stream collection, storage, and disposal (including general, recycling, and potentially on-site incinerator operation) in compliance with PNG environmental guidelines.
- Respond effectively and rapidly to critical, unscheduled facility failures (e.g., power outages, security breaches, major equipment breakdowns) to minimize disruption to logistics operations.
Team Leadership and Local Content
- Lead, mentor, and manage the local team of tradespeople focusing on skills transfer and capacity building.
- Manage service contracts and relationships with local PNG vendors and contractors, ensuring compliance with all company and safety requirements while supporting local business development.
- Oversee labor scheduling, work allocation, and performance management for the maintenance staff.
Financial and Administrative
- Provide accurate and timely reporting on facility condition, maintenance KPIs, and capital needs to the General Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of technical experience in industrial maintenance, facilities engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of management experience leading maintenance teams, ideally within an industrial, mining, or logistics environment.
- Strong knowledge of PNG OHS and environmental regulations.
