PNG SDP drives long-term welfare improvement and community resilience in Papua New Guinea, primarily within Western Province, through strategic investments in health, education, and sustainable livelihoods.
The role
The Facilities Manager role is pivotal to this mission. You will drive PNG SDP 's continued success by ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and safety of all infrastructure and facilities across all hubs. This includes guaranteeing full compliance with OHS and building regulations, conducting routine facility risk assessments, and implementing robust preventative maintenance schedules to enhance organizational resilience and operational continuity. This role requires extensive collaboration with internal departments, site managers, and external contractors to provide the well-managed, compliant, and functional physical environments necessary for smooth program delivery.
This is a perfect opportunity if you're a proactive, hands-on, and solutions-oriented professional with a background in Facilities Management, Construction, or Engineering, looking to leverage your expertise in demanding multi-site or remote settings. You will directly secure the safety and continuity of the critical infrastructure that empowers local communities.
Main duties include:
- Oversee the daily operations and upkeep of all PNGSDP-managed facilities (accommodations, clinics, depots).
- Implement and execute preventative and corrective maintenance schedules for essential infrastructure, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and generators.
- Ensure all facilities adhere to occupational health and safety (OHS) and building regulations, including managing security, fire safety systems, and conducting risk assessments.
- Plan, scope, and manage minor renovation or refurbishment projects, overseeing contractor engagement and quality control for facility improvements.
- Prepare and manage the annual facilities budget, control utility usage for cost-effectiveness, and ensure facilities-related procurement follows compliance procedures.
- Lead and manage assigned support staff (maintenance, guards) and serve as the key point of contact for external contractors and utility service providers.
- Minimum 5–7 years managing facilities in a remote or multi-site setting, including WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) experience.
- Required Diploma/Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction, or Engineering.
- Proven ability in preventive maintenance, asset management, budgeting, procurement, and contractor supervision.
- Knowledge of PNG OHS/building codes, commitment to safety compliance, and a proactive, hands-on, culturally sensitive approach.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge in MS Office, with proven knowledge in maintenance tracking software being an advantage.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, coupled with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and service quality.
- Ability to manage teams and contractors across multiple remote locations.
- Commitment to safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, while being culturally sensitive and respectful of local customs and community norms.
- Experience in vendor management as part of procurement responsibilities and maintaining accurate records of fixed assets, buildings, and equipment.
