Finance Officer

As a member of the extended Senior Management Team, you will provide leadership in communication and advocacy initiatives aimed at changing practices for betterment of children’s lives at community and national levels. Where you come in:
In this full-time maximum term position based in Port Moresby, you be responsible to supports the AIHSS Jiwaka Provincial Coordinator and Jiwaka PHA to ensure that all expenses, activities, and financial transactions implemented under the AIHSS-funded immunisation project are fully processed, acquitted and documented in accordance with government policies and donor requirements and in a transparent and accountable manner. You will work with the PHA to ensure that all funds disbursed to the Jiwaka PHA are fully acquitted in line with government and donor requirements, building capacity of the PHA finance department (and health facilities in Jiwaka) to manage financial disbursements, acquittals and reports independently. The role will include some field travels to health facilities across the province and significant interaction with the Jiwaka PHA.

You will make an impact by:

  • Adhere to all Save the Children policies and procedures, in particular the Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policies. Help strengthen safe programming delivery.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour towards children, beneficiaries and government counterparts at all levels.
  • Be aware of, and consider, the security and other risks associated with everyday work and apply appropriate mitigation measures; develop a positive and strong relationship with people and communities where Save the Children works.

Does this sound like you?
You have to possess a combination of hard skills, soft skills, and a positive attitude of succeed. Key skills include strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, proficiency in accounting and financial software, and excellent communication skills. A positive attitude involves being detail-oriented, trustworthy, and having integrity, along with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to change.

This role requires:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role, desirable NGO sector.
  • Diploma in Business Accounting.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer literacy: use of Email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in use of financial management systems software.
  • Work collaboratively with the finance team, management and partners.
  • Organisation and planning; able to meet deadlines and use initiative to respond to changing situations.
