The Role – Finance Superintendent

Reporting to the Geology Manager, the incumbent would provide accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation of WML with a strong focus on inventory management and will work closely with the Site Logistics Superintendent to align inventory practices with corporate financial goals and compliance standards.

This is a FIFO position on 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster (the roster will be amended during the operational phase of the project). Preferred Points of Hire are Woodlark, Alotau, Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen.

Please note that successful candidate will be required to do a pre-employment medical process at company’s preferred medical Facility.

Key roles and responsibilities include

  • Ensuring compliance and consistency in applying all site accounting policies, procedures and processes in line with broader corporate finance policies.
  • Providing input for month-end processes including coordination of inventory stock takes and compilation / reconciliation of closing balances.
  • Driving cost saving initiatives.
  • Monitoring departmental expenditure and provide cost variance reports.
  • Assisting with preparation of annual budgets and/or forecasts.
  • Reviewing fortnightly payroll.
  • Coordinating invoice processing including matching invoices to PO and cost coding.
  • Ensuring prompt payment of local employee and supplier accounts.
  • Coordinating site petty cash top-up, disbursement and reconciliation.
  • Overseeing the responsibilities of two accounts support officers on site; and
  • Assisting with ad hoc tasks where required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

  • Senior level site-based finance experience
  • Membership of a professional accounting body or working towards designation.
  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management and accounting.
  • Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures; and
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks.
