The Role
A commercially astute Financial Controller is sought to lead the finance function across multiple concurrent construction projects. This senior role is responsible for driving financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and improving performance through accurate reporting and strong cost control.
You will collaborate closely with operations, project managers, and procurement teams to ensure financial alignment with commercial outcomes. This is a high-impact leadership position suited to someone with deep technical expertise and the ability to influence at all levels of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, year-end statements, and audit preparation
• Oversee project cost controls, cash flow forecasting, and variance analysis to ensure jobs remain profitable
• Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial modelling across multiple construction projects
• Ensure compliance with PNG tax laws, statutory requirements, and IFRS accounting standards
• Supervise and develop finance staff; promote accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Partner with project managers and procurement teams to align commercial goals with financial outcomes

Professional Qualifications

• Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA PNG) or equivalent (e.g. CPA Australia, CA, ACCA)
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline

Experience

• 10+ years in financial management, including 3–5 years in a senior leadership role
• Background in construction, civil works, or infrastructure sectors
• Strong understanding of project-based accounting and cost control

Technical Expertise

• In-depth knowledge of IFRS and PNG tax regulations (preferred)
• Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and audit preparation
• Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. MYOB, SAP, Xero, or similar)

Leadership & Communication

• Proven experience leading finance teams and mentoring junior staff
• Comfortable partnering with project and operations teams
• Strong communication skills with internal leadership and external stakeholders (banks, auditors, regulators)
• Understanding of local procurement and subcontractor processes

• Ability to work across cross-cultural teams, including both national and expatriate staff
