Summary

The Front of House (FOH) Floor Captain is responsible for coordinating and supervising service delivery on the restaurant floor to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences. This role leads service staff during shifts, supports guest engagement, and ensures brand standards are consistently upheld.

The FOH Floor Captain acts as the key link between the service team, kitchen, and bar, providing on-the-floor leadership and ensuring seamless execution of daily service.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Guest Experience Coordination

  • Ensure guests receive attentive, high-quality service aligned with brand standards.

  • Monitor assigned sections and assist staff in maintaining service excellence.

  • Handle guest requests and minor complaints promptly and professionally.

  • Support VIP and repeat guest engagement.

  • Maintain strong knowledge of menu offerings, specials, allergens, and promotions.

2. Team Support & Shift Leadership

  • Lead and motivate FOH service staff during shifts.

  • Conduct pre-shift briefings covering reservations, service priorities, and menu updates.

  • Provide on-the-floor coaching and guidance to staff.

  • Assist with staff allocation, section assignments, and shift coordination.

  • Support onboarding and training of new FOH employees.

3. Operations & Service Flow

  • Oversee service timing, table turnover, and guest flow in assigned areas.

  • Coordinate closely with kitchen and bar teams to ensure seamless service.

  • Assist with reservations, seating plans, and guest management.

  • Monitor peak service periods and proactively support staff to address challenges.

4. Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure FOH areas meet cleanliness, presentation, and brand standards.

  • Enforce service protocols and company policies during shifts.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety regulations.

  • Support accurate use of POS systems and billing procedures.

  • Conduct routine checks on uniforms, grooming, and staff presentation.

5. Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain clear communication between FOH staff, kitchen, and bar teams.

  • Provide shift handover notes and updates to the FOH Supervisor or Manager.

  • Report incidents, guest feedback, or operational issues promptly.

6. Events & Special Functions

  • Support execution of events, private functions, and special activations.

  • Coordinate FOH staffing and service delivery during events.

  • Ensure high service standards are maintained throughout special functions.

Reporting Structure:
Reports To FOH Supervisor / Restaurant Manager Supervises FOH Service Staff (waitstaff, hosts, runners) Works Alongside Kitchen Team, Bar Staff, Events and Reservations Team

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in food & beverage or hospitality service.

  • At least 1 year in a team leader or captain role (e.g., FOH Captain, Shift Leader, Senior Waitstaff).

  • Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality, Tourism, or a related field (preferred but not essential).

  • Proven ability to lead service teams and deliver high-quality guest experiences.

  • Strong floor leadership and team coordination skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Ability to resolve guest concerns quickly and professionally.

  • Capable of working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

  • Professional presentation, grooming, and conduct.

  • Sound knowledge of restaurant service standards and guest experience.

  • Competency in POS systems and basic cash handling.

  • Commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

  • Shift-based role including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

  • Physically demanding role requiring prolonged standing and active movement.

  • Uniform and grooming standards must be maintained at all times.
