The Company

A dynamic new energy company is launching to drive essential hydro and rural electrification projects, enhancing and complementing existing services with a focused approach on delivering sustainable energy solutions to Enga province in Papua New Guinea.


The Role

As General Manager, you will lead an energy investment company based in Wabag, focused on delivering rural electrification across the six districts of Enga Province.

You will drive the company’s strategic direction and oversee all aspects of operations, including project development and construction, power plant management, transmission and distribution, customer service, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and affordable delivery of electricity to local communities, while also supporting the company’s long-term growth and commitment to operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans for hydropower, renewables, and infrastructure
• Manage all phases of hydropower projects, including studies, tendering, construction and operations
• Collaborate with consultants, contractors, government and partners
• Manage reliable power generation, transmission and distribution
• Lead customer service and energy conservation initiatives
• Monitor budgets, cost control and financial performance
• Ensure regulatory and environmental compliance
• Build strong government and community relationships
• Lead and grow multidisciplinary teams
• Implement innovative technologies for efficiency and sustainability
• Identify and mitigate operational and cybersecurity risks

Key Criteria/Attributes

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced energy management qualification preferred
• Extensive leadership experience in power utility operations or engineering
• Strong knowledge of power project development, generation tech, transmission, distribution and regulations
• Proven ability to lead large teams and drive strategic goals
• Skilled in financial analysis, budgeting, cost control and capital planning
• Excellent communication skills with diverse stakeholders including Government, community and the private sector
• Strategic thinker with experience in long-term planning aligned to market and regulatory trends
