General Manager / Papua New Guinea Country Head

MC Infrastructure | Port Moresby

MC Infrastructure is looking for a motivated, capable and experienced General Manager to lead our multidisciplinary team in Port Moresby.

This role suits someone who enjoys bringing people together, keeping projects moving and creating a positive, accountable workplace. You will initially manage 8 team members working across civil engineering, geotechnical services, environmental consulting, land surveying, planning and project support. Our ambition is to double the size of this team over the next two years.

People leadership is the main requirement. A civil engineering, construction project management, geotechnical or environmental background would be advantageous, although we welcome applicants from other relevant professional backgrounds.

Your responsibilities

• Provide daily leadership, direction and support to the Port Moresby team

• Manage client projects in Microsoft Planner and coordinate project delivery across several technical disciplines

• Coordinate and ensure timely issuance of fee proposals and maintain CRM records

• Mentor staff and build a positive and productive workplace culture

• Set clear priorities, allocate work and monitor deadlines

• Hold regular team meetings and follow up agreed actions

• Proactively communicate with and involve senior management

• Build strong client relationships, ask questions and identify issues early

• Monitor workloads, project progress, budgets and staff performance

• Recruit, onboard and support new team members

• Prepare clear weekly reports for senior management

• Improve office systems, communication and accountability

• Promote quality, responsibility and consistent delivery

About you

You will have:

• Experience leading a team of at least 5 staff

• Experience recruiting, selecting and onboarding team members

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong client relationship and stakeholder management experience

• A practical, organised and solutions-focused approach

• Confidence setting expectations and holding people accountable

• Good project coordination and reporting skills

• Strong computer skills and confidence with modern workplace software

• Sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities

• A professional background in engineering, construction, environmental science, planning, surveying, geotechnical services or a related field

Civil engineering or project management qualifications or experience would be advantageous, but they are not essential. Leadership ability, communication and personal drive will receive greater weight.

MC Infrastructure is the primary civil engineering arm of Pacific Infrastructure Group and has been operating in Papua New Guinea for close to 20 years. In that time, the firm has worked on numerous key infrastructure projects including the design of sustainable community developments and key transport infrastructure.
