Geospatial Information System Specialist (GIS Specialist/Data Analyst):

Accountabilities
Geospatial Analysis and Mapping
- Lead the development of a comprehensive One Health diagnostic network map, utilizing geospatial mapping and modelling techniques to integrate data across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
- Support the creation of a geographical risk categorization model to guide resource allocation and outbreak response, leveraging data from diagnostic network optimization (DNO) surveys, surveillance mapping, and other relevant sources.
- Conduct spatial analysis to identify areas of high health risk and prioritize interventions accordingly.
Data Management and Visualization
- Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to collect, clean, and manage geospatial data for various project activities.
- Develop data visualization tools, dashboards, and maps to support real-time data analysis and reporting.
- Ensure that geospatial data is stored, managed, and utilized according to best practices, including data security and confidentiality.
Technical Assistance and Capacity Building
- Provide technical assistance and training to project staff and partners on the use of GIS software, data analysis techniques, and geospatial tools.
- Assist in developing training materials and conducting capacity-building sessions to enhance the skills of local partners in GIS and data management.
- Support the integration of GIS into surveillance and laboratory activities, ensuring that geographic data informs health programming decisions.
Support for One Health Surveillance and Planning
- Collaborate with the One Health Coordinator and other project staff to support the operationalization of One Health strategies, including surveillance, workforce mapping, and risk communication.
- Contribute to the development of technical documents, project reports, and presentations by providing geospatial data insights and visualizations.
Applied Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and data visualization tools.
- Strong skills in spatial analysis, mapping, and data modelling.
- Experience with public health data, epidemiological mapping, and One Health approaches.
- Ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train others and present data effectively.
Supervision Given/Received
- Reports to the One Health Advisor.
- Works closely with the One Health Coordinator, M&E Officer, and other project team members.
Other Duties
- Fulfil other appropriate level responsibilities as defined by your supervisor.
Education and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Data Science, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in GIS analysis, data management, or geospatial mapping, with a focus on health-related projects preferred.
- Experience in using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Familiarity with public health data and One Health initiatives is an advantage.
Skills:
- Strong proficiency in GIS and data analysis software.
- Excellent skills in data visualization, spatial analysis, and map creation.
- Ability to train and mentor others in geospatial techniques.
- Good understanding of data management principles and experience in managing large datasets.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Typical office environment; ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (10-25%).
- Occasional work outside regular office hours may be required for urgent project needs.

- GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and Microsoft Office Suite, and other standard office equipment.
