GSE Auto Mechanic
We are pleased to announce an open vacancy now exists in our Maintenance Repair Organization (MRO) Department for a qualified and experienced Ground Services Equipment Auto Mechanic.
Based in Port Moresby, this position will report to the Ground Services Equipment (GSE) Supervisor. The GSE Auto Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of various types of ground support equipment used in the aviation industry.
The GSE Auto Mechanic will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on ground support equipment, including but not limited to baggage loaders, tow tractors, pushback tractors, portable power units, and forklifts.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, including fluid changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments, and tire rotations.
- Overhaul and rebuild engines, transmissions, and other major components to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts used, and hours spent on each task.
- Coordinate with other mechanics and technicians to effectively prioritize and complete repair jobs in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintained a clean and organized workshop, ensuring all tools, equipment, and parts are properly stored and readily accessible.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements related to ground support equipment maintenance and repair.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external vendors to coordinate repairs, procure parts, and resolve any technical issues.
- Ground Support Equipment Mechanic Required Skills
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in ground support equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to diagnose complex issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams for repair and maintenance purposes.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and report equipment status and repair updates.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labour, lift heavy objects, and work in various weather conditions.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to providing exceptional service to customers.
- Ability to adapt to changing work environments and schedules, including availability for emergency repairs and on-call duties.
To be considered, you must have the relevant qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience:
- expertise in diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
- troubleshooting of various types of ground support equipment used in the aviation industry
- Qualification in Mechanical studies with Tradesman Certificate
- 3-5 years as a Mechanic or in a similar role
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Attention to detail
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles
- knowledge of machinery and hydraulic systems
- Be physically fit
