GROUP OPERATIONS MANAGER
HBS (PNG) LIMITED currently operates in numerous mine sites across PNG, both on the mainland and remote island locations. We own and operate one of the largest and best maintained mining fleets in PNG, offering the mining sector a variety of services including road construction and maintenance, haulage, lighting and crushing services and plant equipment hire.
We are taking expressions of interest for highly and suitably qualified individuals for the position of Group Operations Manager. Applicants must have experience within the mining and construction fields.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The role is responsible for leading the safe, profitable, and efficient delivery of HBS operations across Papua New Guinea while supporting the Company's strategic growth objectives and overall business performance.
The position provides leadership across mining, civil infrastructure, oil and gas, maintenance, equipment management, and future diversified service offerings, ensuring operational excellence, strong financial performance, high client satisfaction, and full compliance with contractual, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements.
Working closely with the COO and Executive Leadership Team, the Group Operations Manager is accountable for integrating operational delivery with commercial, financial, project controls, asset management, supply chain, human capital, and business development functions to maximise profitability, optimise resource utilisation, effectively manage operational risk, and deliver sustainable business growth.
The Candidate must have:
- Minimum 20 years' progressive leadership experience, including at least 10 years in senior operational leadership roles, within mining, civil infrastructure, oil and gas, EPC/EPCM, maintenance, or integrated mining services, with responsibility for multi-site operations and overall business performance.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex operations in Papua New Guinea or similar remote and developing operating environments, including the management of multicultural workforces, remote logistics, stakeholder engagement, and client delivery. Previous operational leadership experience in Papua New Guinea is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with Australian and/or international resource sector clients, with a strong understanding of Tier 1 contractor expectations, governance, commercial practices, and project delivery models. Previous operational or client-facing experience supporting Australian-based mining, infrastructure, or oil and gas clients is strongly preferred.
- Experience working within, or alongside, Tier 1 mining, infrastructure, or oil and gas contractors and multinational resource companies will be highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Project Management or Civil Engineering (preferred).
- Demonstrated professional development in leadership, operational excellence, commercial management, or executive leadership is advantageous.
- Strategic Leadership - Develops and executes operational strategies aligned with business objectives while driving sustainable growth and long-term value.
- Commercial Acumen - Demonstrates strong financial, contractual, and commercial judgement to maximise profitability and manage business risk
