About the Role:
The Head of Business Lending (HoBL) is responsible for acquiring, growing, and managing a high‑value portfolio of commercial and business clients. This role combines strategic business development with expert relationship management to drive sustainable lending growth, deepen client engagement, and ensure high-quality credit outcomes.
The HoBL acts as a trusted financial advisor to clients, partnering closely with internal teams—including credit, risk, operations, and product specialists—to deliver tailored financial solutions.
HoBL to provide guidance and direction for his/her direct reports to manage portfolio and ensure learning and development gaps are identified and appropriate action taken to upskill staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Business Development & Growth
- Identify, pursue, and convert new business lending opportunities within target industries and segments.
- Develop strategic networks with industry partners, brokers, accountants, and community organisations.
- Achieve growth targets for lending and deposits.
- Conduct regular market research to identify trends and emerging opportunities.
2.Sales & Market Growth
- Manage and grow a lending and term deposit portfolio of high-value commercial clients (e.g., Mid‑Commercial and Corporate).
- Act as a primary contact for clients, ensuring excellent service and quick issue resolution.
- Build multi-level relationships across client organisations, including CFOs, CEOs, and business owners.
- Conduct regular client reviews to understand evolving business needs.
- Achieve sales target income, contribute to the profitability and growth of the loan portfolio by developing and maintaining customer relationship through utilizing the full spectrum of Moniplus Commercial products and services to generate fee-based income.
- Ensures the overall success & growth of an assigned portfolio and portfolio of direct reports.
- Understand, support, and may perform effective financial analysis in the areas of credit and cash flow to support direct reports.
3.Credit/Risk Management, Collections & Process Compliance
- Structure lending proposals that balance client needs with the Moni Plus’ risk appetite.
- Work with credit analysts to prepare high-quality credit submissions.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, AML/CTF requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Monitor portfolio performance, including early warning indicators, arrears, and covenant compliance.
- Responsible for collection of allocated portfolios for arrears up to 60 days.
- Observe and follow to Standard protocols of credit files before handling over to support / back-office team. Aim to improve customer experience, quality and TAT.
- Quality Control & Compliance - ensure quality submission to achieve high accuracy and correctness
4.Customer Relationship Management
- Structuring of Term Loans, Asset Based Finance, and Term Deposit products to suit customer’s need.
- Add value to the client and stay ahead of the competition by structuring and implementing innovative deals based on program guidelines.
- Increase wallet share by cross selling products to the customer.
- Create excellent customer experience to generate business referrals
5.Portfolio Quality
- Regular client engagement to be fully aware of developments in the business to anticipate potential credit issues, if any
- Maintaining portfolio quality by monitoring the performance of the account / pending compliances and identifying stress and delinquency situations
- Performing financial analysis, risk analysis and doing credit appraisal for getting it sanctioned from respective approving authorities.
- Liaise with various divisions like Risk / Back Office for onboarding the client and then servicing them
6.Staff Development
- Mentor direct report and support capability development.
- Ensure effective training is given to direct reports so that staff are fully versed with the product knowledge to effectively sell existing and potential clients.
- Manage Relationship Managers performance assessments to the performance targets for Commercial Lending.
Who we’re Looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Commerce, or related field (preferred) from a reputed university.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to build trust with senior business stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- High emotional intelligence and client empathy.
- Proficient in financial statements and credit risk analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial lending products and structures.
- 5–10+ years experience in business or commercial banking.
- Proven expertise in managing a complex business lending portfolio.
- Experience and exposure in relationship banking with good credit analysis knowledge is preferred and will be an added advantage.
- Should have active network of business contacts and possesses good business acumen.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial products, services and credit risk.
- Ability to spot new business opportunity.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Willingness to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines
