The Role
Expatriate Opportunity

A retail banking business ready for change. A bank in Papua New Guinea is seeking a Head of Retail Banking to lead its branch network and retail sales teams through a genuine digital transformation — and to grow its customer base in the process.

Reporting to the CEO, you’ll manage a large team of 100+ staff and carry a clear mandate to shift the retail model towards digital channels, easing pressure on branches and improving service efficiency. You’ll also work closely with the Corporate and SME teams, supporting segments without a physical branch presence. Expect clear KPIs around digital adoption, customer satisfaction, and overall customer growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the retail banking strategy, with a strong digital banking focus
  • Drive growth in retail deposits, lending, and customer numbers, expanding the overall customer base
  • Lead the shift of customers towards digital and alternative channels, reducing branch and queue dependency
  • Oversee branch network operations, ensuring efficiency, consistency, compliance, and business continuity
  • Champion a customer-centric culture, reducing complaints and improving satisfaction and retention
  • Manage retail banking budgets, profitability, and cost-to-income performance
  • Oversee management of operational, credit, and fraud risk within the retail portfolio
  • Lead, develop, and build capability across the retail leadership team and branch network, including talent and succession planning
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, partners, and key stakeholders
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and strong risk governance
About You
  • 10–15+ years’ experience in banking or financial services, with extensive retail banking leadership experience
  • A proven track record managing large teams across multiple branch networks
  • Strong experience driving digital transformation and channel migration in retail banking
  • Experience from comparable markets undergoing similar transformation is highly regarded
  • An innovative, customer-focused mindset, with a track record of improving service efficiency
  • Strong commercial acumen and sales/distribution leadership experience
  • A relevant degree; Master’s degree an advantage
