Reporting the CRO, this role is essential for safeguarding the financial stability, compliance, and reputation of their organisation as they navigate an evolving financial landscape.
Role Purpose:
The Head of Risk will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing comprehensive risk management frameworks aligned with their strategic objectives. You will ensure the bank remains resilient, compliant, and proactive in identifying and mitigating risks. This leadership role requires deep expertise in risk management, operational resilience, and a collaborative approach to drive risk awareness across all business units.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Management Framework Development: Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive risk management framework, ensuring alignment with business goals and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks across all business areas using advanced analytics and technology to enhance detection and response mechanisms.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Compliance: Work closely with senior management, compliance teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure risk practices align with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives. Provide timely risk reports to the Board and regulatory bodies.
- Operational Integrity & Subsidiary Oversight: Ensure the integrity of risk management functions across subsidiaries, providing leadership and mentorship to foster accountability and continuous improvement.
- Expense Management & Crisis Response: Oversee resource allocation, ensuring efficiency in the risk function, and lead crisis response strategies to mitigate impacts of unforeseen events, ensuring business continuity.
- Direct Reports: 4 direct reports, 8 indirect reports
- Budget Management: Significant budget oversight, ensuring cost efficiency and effective resource allocation
- Strong expertise in risk management frameworks, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, with experience in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
- Proficiency in risk management tools, data analysis, and statistical modelling.
- Expertise in business continuity planning, crisis management, and governance processes.
- Advanced knowledge of Basel risk technologies, ORX, and enterprise risk management.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in a senior risk management role within the financial industry.
- Proven ability to lead teams, with strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in emerging markets, with a deep understanding of the regulatory and operational challenges unique to these regions.
- Preferred Certifications: CRMP, ISO 31000, or Enterprise Risk Management certifications.
- Transforming risk management into a proactive and strategic function.
- Establishing seamless governance and compliance processes.
- Enhancing internal expertise and fostering knowledge transfer.
