We are seeking to recruit a Senior Mine Geologist for our Mine Technical Services - Geology Department. Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, the Senior Mine Geologist will coordinate all mine geology functions on site. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the value geology adds to the operation with a key focus on grade control, ore block design, collection of geological data, reporting and reconciliation.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Designing, implementation and monitoring of short, medium and long-term drill programs (GC & DH) and contractor management.
- Provide pertinent geological information and advice to Mining and Processing departments for maximising ore recovery and ounce production.
- Management of Grade Control drilling and sample data collection for ore block generation.
- Developing and updating of 3D geological models (Grade Control and Planning) through gathering of new geological knowledge.
- Updating Waste Dump 3D models for ARD monitoring including field delineation to ensure correct dumping of NAF/PAF rocks.
- Updating and managing of the geological database to ensure high data integrity.
- Ensure the QAQC protocols are understood and adhered to in all areas (Mining, GC & Sample Analysis).
- Ensure sampling and ore excavation is conducted to the highest possible standard.
- Maintain effective geological control on the extraction of the orebody and grade estimation through routine supervision of grade control and mining activities relevant geological or other pertinent factors
- Liaise with the Assay Lab and carry out Lab audits.
- Compile the monthly geological activities reports.
- Provide timely advice to engineers to assist in forward mine planning, design and scheduling.
- Provide direction and supervision to Mine Geologists and Technicians.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in open-pit mining grade control practices and technology.
- Alternate for the Geology Superintendent when required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology from a recognised higher institution
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in open pit mining
- A sound understanding of 3D modelling techniques, data management and validation processes
- Proficiency with 3D mining software (Surpac, Micromine Ore Pro3D & Excel preferred)
- High level of computer competency
- Be able to communicate well at all levels
- Be a team player with a positive attitude
- Demonstrate strong commitment towards safety
- A mindset to always look for better ways to deliver value
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess a current PNG driver license

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
