We are currently seeking to recruit a Mine Geologist for our Mine Technical Services - Geology Department. Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of quality mine geology services to maximize resource recovery and minimize loss and dilution at the Hidden Valley Mine.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

• Design and supervise grade control drilling programmes to accurately delineate the orebody ahead of mining
• Supervise drilling contractors to ensure drilling activities are conducted in accordance with site safety standards.
• Perform regular pit mapping and incorporate updated data into the geological model
• Supervise mine technicians to ensure daily tasks of sampling, ore block mark-up and ore mining are completed accurately and on time
• Supervise ore mining to maximise recovery and minimise ore loss and dilution
• Design and supervise blast vector monitoring
• Manage daily blending of ROM stockpiles to achieve planned mill feed grade targets
• Compile and report ore mining production figures on a daily and weekly basis
• Ensure the quality of grade control drillhole data and QAQC standards are met for all grade control and blasthole samples
• Adhere to site and department safe work procedures, including conducting safe behaviour observations, hazard identification and reporting and Job safety and Environment Analysis (JSEA’s)
• Complete regular safety inspections of work areas and drilling contractors.
• Provide training and mentoring to technicians and graduate geologists in mine geology functions
• Actively participate in and promote a safe, healthy and productive work culture

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

• Bachelor Degree in Geology from a recognised higher institution
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in open pit mining
• A sound understanding of 3D modelling techniques, data management and validation processes
• Proficiency with 3D mining software (Surpac, Micromine, OrePro3D & Excel preferred)
• High level of computer competency
• Be able to communicate well at all levels
• Be a team player with a positive attitude
• Possess a current PNG driver license
