We are seeking to recruit for the position of APD Operations Supervisor for our Safety, Health, Security & Risk – Asset Protection Department. Reporting to the APD Superintendent, the primary objective for this role is to supervise the Asset Protection Department Operations in order to comply with all policies and procedures as they pertain to the security of the company’s personnel and infrastructures.
This role will be offered as a National FIFO/DIDO opportunity within Papua New Guinea working on a 16/12 roster.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Ensure compliance to the Hidden Valley Security Management Plan and lead physical asset protection and security risk management activities
- Assist in driving operational excellence in security and asset protection management practices through proactive engagement, guidance and support to the site.
- Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to security and asset protection personnel and security contractor(s).
- Identify and recommend best practice initiatives to improve asset protection and security preparedness and response and capabilities
- Application of the four basic pillars for asset protection and security; Deterrence, Detection, Delay and Response, and the underpinning requirements / controls for effectiveness.
- Oversee incident response planning inclusive of intelligence collection and investigation of security breaches. Assist with disciplinary matters associated with such breaches as necessary.
- Ensure completion of daily activities and ensure security is deployed and effective to plan.
- Maintain training plans and competency matrices for all security and asset protection personnel.
- Conduct security drills and exercises to ensure effective security preparedness and response capabilities
- Ensure completion of routine inspections, testing and scheduling of maintenance for asset protection and security equipment
- Command and control of the day-to-day management of all Asset Protection Officers and contracted Security Guards
- Ensure ongoing implementation, effectiveness, understanding and compliance of Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights training by all Asset Protection Officers and contracted Security Guards.
- Monitor the performance and development of the Asset Protection Team, oversee recruitment decisions, applying performance management practices and implementing training programs.
- Ensure own behaviour is aligned with the Company Values at all times and inspire others to align with this framework also.
- Remain abreast of key industry / regulatory developments at all times.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Minimum 5 years industry experience with previous leadership experience
- Police or military background or security industry background in similar role
- Ability to lead up front, mentor and motivate subordinates
- Participated in Basic Security Trainings/Courses
- Strong communication skills, both oral & written
- Have intermediate computer skills in MS Word
- Able to speak and understand Tok Pisin, and read, write and speak well in English
- Possess valid and current PNG class 6 driving license
- Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to be assertive

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
