We are currently seeking to recruit a Work Area Supervisor for our Mining Operations Department. Reporting to the Senior Supervisor – Operations, the primary objective of the role is to manage all Open Pit operations, to supply site processing plant with ore requirements at target grade, while Health, Safety, Environment and Community Relations standards are met. Adherence to PNG Mining Statutory requirements is a minimum requirement.


Key roles and responsibilities include:

• Meet Site Safety Leadership requirements
• Monitor and maintain standards and policies for the Open Pit mine
• Attend and actively participate in departmental safety meetings, ensuring that effective systems are in place to ensure all matters raised are recorded and promptly addressed
• Ensure daily, weekly, monthly and annual Open Pit Budget production targets are achieved safely (i.e. ore
tonnes, grades, and waste movement)
• Assist in improving on operational efficiencies and equipment productivities, to achieve Operational Targets
• Maintain training and induction programs to ensure all mine operations personnel and contractors are familiar with policies and safe work procedures as well as their duty of care and personal accountability
• Ensure that no work is undertaken without prior induction, appropriate training and verification of
competencies
• Assist in managing performance and development of the open pit team, making recruitment recommendations, ensuring performance appraisals are completed, and implementing training programs
• Adhere to shift start up procedures and deliver a well-organised shift start up
• Ensure the work area is set up well for the oncoming shift to achieve their targets
• Resolve problems as they arise and escalate any issues and risks to the Senior Supervisor


Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

• At least 3-4 years’ experience in an Open Pit Mine environment
• A Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory role is preferred
• Computer literate in MS Word and Excel
• Ability to communicate in English and Tok Pisin
• Have current Class 3 or 6 PNG’s Drivers Licence
• Able to manage multiple priorities to deliver agreed outcomes
• Be team oriented, with the ability to lead, coach, mentor and direct
• Possess strong interpersonal attributes with regards to punctuality and commitment

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
