We are currently seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Industrial Relations Advisor for our Industrial Relations Section of the Human Resources Department. Reporting to the IR Supervisor, the successful applicant is responsible for providing effective and timely industrial relations advice to Line Supervision and employees’ site wide. This role also has a human resources generalist focus, which includes; policy advice and general HR support services functions.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Providing industrial relations advice to employees and line supervision on Harmony Gold - Hidden Valley Mine policies and procedures.
  • Ensure operational and administrative industrial relations tasks are timely, efficiently and effectively delivered.
  • Provide support in the implementation of Industrial Relations and HR guidelines, planned employee engagement activities and ensure new initiatives are delivered as planned.
  • Maintain Industrial Relations Grievances Registry and ensure all grievances are registered and updated on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Facilitate timely resolution of disciplinary actions consistent with Company Disciplinary procedures.
  • Ensure all record of disciplinary proceedings are captured and documentations are uploaded in personnel files.
  • Ensure employee disciplinary and welfare-counselling service for local mine employees are coordinated and reported upon on weekly basis.
  • Ensure Employee Representative Committee meeting minutes and action items from those meetings are compiled and circulated to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Employee Representative Committee meeting schedules are maintained, coordinate responses from assigned actions of previous meetings and ensure new agendas are compiled in time for future meetings.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management; preferably Industrial/Organization Psychology
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial relations or similar role
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of PNG’s Employment Act and Labour Laws
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills with the ability to facilitate solutions to individual employee or group issues.
  • High level of computer skills and must be familiar with computerized work systems
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written expression
  • Excellent negotiation and interactive skills
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality and personal integrity at all times
  • Is assertive and confidence in public speaking
  • Demonstrates strong self-discipline, high level of personal integrity and be of a stable character
  • Community Relations experience is an advantage

The above role is Hidden Valley Mine Site based.

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
