We are seeking to recruit an experienced Camp & Travel Superintendent for our People Department. Reporting to the Manager - Human Resources, Training, Camp & Travel. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective operation of the Camp and Travel department.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
CAMP MANAGEMENT
- Manage the Camp Catering Contract and ensuring high standards of service are delivered including but not limited to:
- Camp Catering
- Camp Administration & Accommodation Cleaning
- Laundry Services
- Office Cleaning Services
- Ground Keeping Services
- Healthy Lifestyle Coaching & Information Sharing
- Ensure effective and efficient camp booking processes are in place and maintained.
- Conduct regular and ongoing audits of facilities including accommodation, offices, mess / kitchen and other relevant Camp service areas.
- Maintain an independent count / record of POB on site and verify the independent count with the Contractor's count on a daily basis.
- Ensure full Contract Compliance by the Camp Contractor by conducting a formal audit of the Camp Contractor's activities on a monthly basis
- Accountability for having camp maintenance attended to in a prompt and timely manner.
- Ensure Camp occupancy and future bookings do not to exceed Camp capacity.
TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
- Oversee the delivery and management of transportation services via aircraft and bussing for large numbers of employees, contractors and visitors to and from site to Company nominated points of hire, and on-site movements to various work locations.
- Ensure effective and efficient travel booking processes are in place and maintained.
- Manage a large air charter services contractor and ensure compliance with the contracted services occurs.
- Manage a large bus charter services contractor and ensure compliance with the contracted services occurs.
- Oversee the operation and management of a large fleet of internal run and maintained busses.
- Oversee the scheduling of flight and external / internal bus services to nominated agreed travel bases.
- Liaise with off-site providers of transportation services.
- Liaise with and manage day-to-day operations of Flight Charter Contractor, off-site bus services Contractor and other providers of people transportation as required.
- Liaise with Department Leaders on transportation requirements.
- Liaise with Mobile Fleet Management on the maintenance and servicing of the bus fleet.
CONTRACTS
- Lead and participate in formal regular and ad hoc Contractor meetings.
- Constantly review and assess Camp & Travel Costs vs Budget.
- Assess, track and submit in a timely manner a large volume of invoices for Camp & Travel services.
- Monitor and track contractual compliance
REPORTING
- Monthly cost reporting.
- Produce regular forecasts on camp occupancy and travel requirements
- Produce monthly Camp & Travel reports with a high attention to detail
- Produce ad hoc reports as required.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Ensure high level of safety focus is maintained within the team, including Contractor team members.
- Report and action required safety and risk actions and incidents as they occur.
- Produce, review and maintain Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
HUMAN RESOURCES
- Manage a large team of Camp and Travel personnel including supervisors, coordinators, operators, drivers, support staff and other area personnel. Performance manages the team effectively.
- Training and development of Camp & Travel team
- Ensure adequate coverage at all times across the Camp & Travel team.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- At least 5 years work experience in a role supervising camp facilities, catering and travel.
- Previous experience working in the resources industry or camp travel logistics is essential.
- Experience in leading large teams in the delivery of service focused activities.
- Experience in contract administration, travel and camp management.
- Experience with camp and transportation management systems and accounting / procurement systems is essential.
- High level of computer skills in Microsoft Office Software - Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and achieve result
- Strong analytical, planning & organization skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
- Assertive Negotiation skills representing the Company's interest
- An ability to efficiently and effectively manage work time
- Ability to effectively manage a team to achieve the best results.
- Customer focused approach and effective communication skills
The above role is Hidden Valley Mine Site based.

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
