We are currently seeking to recruit a Production Engineer for our Mine Technical Department. Reporting to the Senior STP Engineer, the primary objective of this role is to develop daily mine plans and weekly schedules to the Mining Operations team for implementation.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Providing effective daily, weekly and monthly mining schedules and dump/stockpile plans and ensures implementation is carried out by Operations on a daily basis.
- Carrying out projects relevant to short term mining as required.
- Developing sequence for dump construction and liaise with Survey, Geotech and Mine Operations to enable them to understand the sequence of the development for stable dump construction.
- Carry out bench development plans that are consistent with overall mine plans and taking into account geological conditions, geotechnical requirements and dewatering constraints to achieve efficient production for mining fleets in a safe manner.
- Ensures compliance of pit and dump designs by working in collaboration with Survey and Operations.
- Able to do short term pit and dump design adjustments or modifications in line with longer term mine designs to address operational constraints.
- Providing timely advice to Medium Term planning Engineers and Superintendents to assist in forward planning, design and scheduling.
- Contributing to the operational design, evaluation and scheduling of all project works.
- Ensuring maintenance of standards and quality by reviewing Safe Working Procedures (SWP) compliance with procedures.
- Producing mine performance reports and delivering on time and accurately.
- Ensuring that regular general inspections of the work area are conducted, deficiencies rectified, and that a documented record is appropriately filed.
- Promoting environmental awareness, in the work place. Identify and report all activities and potential risks that may cause an environmental impact.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Bachelor of Mining Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years relevant Surface Mining experience
- Strong computer literacy skills in Microsoft & Mining software – Surpac, Mineshed & Deswik.
- Current PNG Class 3 or 6 Driving Licence
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
- High level of planning, analytical and problem solving skills
- Well-developed facilitation skills
- Visible leadership with a flair for training and mentoring
- Ability to think and plan strategically

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
