We are seeking to recruit for the position of an Instrumentation Shift Supervisor for our Fixed Plant Maintenance – Electrical & Instrumentation Department. Reporting to the Instrumentation Specialist, the primary objective of this role is to lead a team of tradesmen within the Instrumentation Maintenance Department on rotating shifts to complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Ensure optimum process plant availability and reliability in relation to instrumentation maintenance by taking ownership of equipment and actioning any instrumentation maintenance requirements in a timely manner.
- Execute the daily instrumentation maintenance plan by allocating work to the Instrument Technicians to ensure maintenance activities are conducted according to the work orders and maintenance plan schedules.
- Implement consistent compliance with set maintenance priorities by effectively communicating day-to-day maintenance priorities and issues with the Specialist, and with other Sections and work groups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required.
- Supervise maintenance activities to ensure they are in accordance with maintenance standards.
- Recommending solutions to maintenance issues, such as changes to equipment which may improve production and decrease unnecessary breakdowns.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety, environment and other policies and procedures by conducting regular monitoring activities, for example ensure the relevant procedures are in place for the isolation of equipment.
- Provide technical advice and assist with decisions for the Instrumentation team.
- Proactively mentor and coach subordinates and identify areas of individual development.
- Monitor and give feedback on Instrumentation Team performance to the relevant personnel.
- Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to company policy and statutory requirements an all recommended corrective actions and completed.
- Ensure compliance to site Work Management System.
- Provide accurate and concise written feedback on work orders, with history notes on hours worked, work performed, parts used and status of job or equipment condition.
- Identify and report unsafe or defective tooling to Superintendent
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Preferred candidate to have Instrumentation Trade Qualification from PNG National Trade Testing Apprenticeship Board (PNG NATTB)
- 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within a mining industry
- Extensive experience in all facets of instrumentation equipment maintenance and repair
- Basic working knowledge of computerised maintenance systems
- Proven Experience in mentoring and managing personnel
- Have class 3 or 6 PNG driver’s license
- Have basic computer skills in MS Excel, Word and Outlook
- Planning and organisational skills
- Prepared to work to flexible company roster and varying work hours as required
- Be able to work in team & multi-cultural environment
- Must have attention to detail

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
