We are seeking to recruit a Gender Development Officer, for our Community Affairs Department at Hidden Valley Mine Site. Reporting to the Gender Development Supervisor the successful applicant will assist to ensure that a harmonious relationship is maintained with the women, youth, and local communities in the Hidden Valley Mine impacted areas by working closely with all key stakeholders in planning and implementation of programs and projects.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Provide sections weekly reports to the Superintendent on weekly basis.
  • Provide programs and projects reports after delivery.
  • Develop an annual plan in consultation with the landowner women and youth groups and their leaders, Government, NGOs and Donor Agencies.
  • Work in close consultation with all key stakeholders in planning and development of programs and projects for Women and Youth in the Mne Landowner Villages.
  • Attend to issues and grievances raised and record them in the grievance register and provide mediation and attempt to resolve through guided work policies.
  • Assist the Community Engagement Team in delivering all approved awareness and training programs to impacted communities and key stakeholders.
  • Work with the supervisor to schedule work to achieve the required work output for the team.
  • Assist with the scheduling of activities of any consultants engaged to provide support to the project.
  • Maintain and comply with the established Safety Processes and Procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Tertiary qualification with a Degree in Communication for Development, Public Administration or PNG Studies.
  • 3-5 years community development experience particularly with working with women and youth at the community level in Mine affected community.
  • Experience in Project Proposal write ups for Women and Youth groups for donor funding.
  • Experience in working with Government at all levels and with NGOs and Donor Organizations.
  • Experience in working in remote areas.
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, organise and control activities.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written skills.
  • Computer competent and able to compile reports and data sheets.
  • Capable to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

The above role is Wau Camp Site Based on a 14/7 roster

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
