We are seeking to recruit Dog Handlers for our Safety, Health, Security & Risk – Asset Protection Department. Reporting to the Senior Supervisor K9, the successful applicant will, as a member of the security team, be responsible for utilizing a trained security dog to provide security in order to support all Harmony Operations.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Prevention, detection and elimination of illegal activities
- Train, care for and handle all security dog in a safe and operationally effective manner
- Undertake kennel cleaning and associated duties as required
- Monitor and report on breaches of safety
- Member of the security response team working with site police.
- Attend to emergency situation, relating but not restricted to investigation of complaints and civil disturbance
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Minimum Grade 10 level education
- Completion of a Dog Handler Training Program (desirable)
- Background in either mine security, police or military with the use of trained dogs.
- Proven experience working as Dog Handler (desirable)
- Have knowledge of the laws of PNG and their application
- Able to read, write and speak well in English
- Ability to remain calm in difficult situations
- Able to work day & night shift
- Effective problem solving, time management, and organisational skills
- Possess PNG class 3 or 6 driver’s license (desirable)
- Demonstrates a very strong self-discipline and must be of sober habit

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
