We are seeking to recruit an Emergency Response Officer, for our SHSR - Emergency Response Department. Reporting to the Emergency Response Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing an Emergency Response capability to ensure emergency preparedness and timely, appropriate and effective response to contain, control and minimize the impact resulting from any emergencies or other situations.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Responding and dealing with a wide range of emergency situations across the Hidden Valley Mine Operation
- Conducting day to day activities as directed by the Emergency Response Supervisor
- Ensuring that there is work-group compliance with Harmony HSE systems.
- Conducting emergency response crew training including specific high-risk competency-based training as directed.
- Assisting in conducting site wide and systematic risk assessments.
- Assisting in developing Emergency Management Plans to control and manage anticipated risks to personnel, property and the environment.
- Implementing, maintaining and continuously improve required measures to ensure emergency preparedness in accordance with approved Emergency Management Plans
- Undertaking regular inspections, maintenance and testing of all emergency prevention and response equipment as per inspection and testing schedules.
- Undertaking site work place inspections to identify potential risks
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Grade 12 Level of Education
- Experience in emergency response activities (Firefighting, SCBA, Rope Rescue, Road Crash Rescue, Hazmat, Confined Space Rescue with MER & R Cert III)
- Experience in emergency preparedness and response capabilities, preferably in mining or heavy industry
- Basic to Intermediate Computer Skills in MS Word and Excel
- Ability to prioritise and work unsupervised
- Ability to delegate, lead, coach, mentor, motivate others and conduct Site Specific training.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English & Tok Pisin.
- Must have current PNG Driver’s Licence (PNG Class 3 or 6) and be able to operate 12 tonne Fire Truck.
- Aviation firefighting skills is (ARSO) desirable
- Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
