We are seeking to recruit a Graduate Engineer for our Mine Technical Services Department. Reporting to the Senior STP Engineer – the primary objective of this role is to work closely with engineers in ensuring continuous, efficient and safe open pit production in order to supply processing plant with ore requirements while ensuring adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental Policies. Flexibility in rotation with the mine engineering department, mine technical services, operations as well as other aspects of the business as part of career development and assisting engineers as required.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Promote a safe, healthy and productive work environment
- Ensure that all activities are performed to the appropriate site OH & S standards
- Foster and develop a team environment within the department and between Operations and Engineers in other areas
- Provide timely feedback and key updates to Engineers/Senior Engineers to assist in forward planning, design and scheduling
- Operate 785 trucks as a key part of the graduate program
- Co-ordinate work flows and personnel to achieve efficient and continuous operation
- Assist in providing daily, weekly and monthly mine plans, drill & blast design and project plans respectively in each section of the mine during the graduate rotation program
- Carrying out QAQC on D&B, Mine Designs and Mine Project plans
- Assist planning, production and drill and blast engineers in producing daily, weekly and monthly reports with accuracy and delivery on a timely manner
- Assist Planning Engineers in collating data for weekly plan, forecasts and budgets as well as mine design projects.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience & Special Requirements:
- Bachelor in Mining Engineering from a recognized University
- Strong safety focused
- Must possess a I can do/ yes can be done attitude, remain coachable and able to learn faster.
- Be a team player, fostering diverse abilities
- Excellent technical problem solving and time management skills
- Be able to communicate well at all levels
- Ideally must possess working knowledge on Deswik Mine Planning Tool (advantage but not necessary- learn here)
- Must have high level of computer competency (Microsoft Office application, MS project, PowerBI,etc…)
- Willing and able to work with a flexible company roster and to varying hours
- Demonstrated working at ease or willing to adapt to working at higher altitude
- Must have a current PNG’s class 3 or 6 driver’s licence

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
