We are seeking to recruit a Rehabilitation and Waste Officer to join our MTS – Environment department. Reporting to the Rehabilitation and Waste Specialist, the successful applicant will provide technical support for the Rehabilitation and Waste Management programs, ensuring compliance with the site’s Environmental Permit, Environmental Management Plan, Environmental Management Systems, Mine Closure and other applicable regulatory and statutory obligations.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Assist in implementing the site-wide progressive rehabilitation plan, ensuring full compliance with Mine Closure and regulatory requirements
- Conduct inspections of rehabilitated and disturbed areas
- Collect verification data to access rehabilitation performance against planned objectives
- Support rehabilitation trials and continuous improvement initiatives,
- Assist in preparing technical reports, maps and rehabilitation progress updates using digital data collection tools and GIS where required
- Assist in implementing and monitoring the site waste management and improvement plan, including correct segregation, storage, transport, and disposal of waste
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of the Waste Management Facility and landfill
- Assist with internal and external environmental audits
- Prepare monthly and annual environmental reports and contribute to regulatory submissions
- Promote a strong safety, environmental, and compliance culture on site
- Contribute positively within a team environment
Qualification, Skills and Experience required;
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Forestry and Agriculture
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the mining industry
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work flexible rosters and varying hours
- Team-focussed and capable of working with diverse groups
- Current PNG drivers licence
- Familiarity with GIS tools

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
