We are seeking to recruit for the position of Emergency Response Trainer for our Safety, Health, Security & Risk – Emergency Response Department. Reporting to the Emergency Response Supervisor, the Emergency Response Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining emergency response training programs tailored to mining operations. This includes preparing personnel for incidents such as fires, explosions, cave-ins, hazardous material spills, and medical emergencies. The role supports both proactive safety culture development and reactive incident readiness. The role will be responsible for transforming our ERT & volunteer ERT into a world-class, independent response unit capable of managing complex risks in a remote mining environment.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Design and update emergency response training programs based on site-specific risks, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Develop training materials, manuals, and assessment tools.
  • Facilitate classroom-based, practical, and blended learning sessions.
  • Deliver training in areas such as fire response, first aid, confined space rescue, hazardous materials, and evacuation procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead emergency response drills and scenario-based exercises.
  • Evaluate team performance and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Conduct formal assessments to verify the competency of emergency response personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of training outcomes and certifications.
  • Ensure training programs meet legal, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Maintain training records and prepare reports for audits and inspections.
  • Review and refine training content based on feedback, incident learnings, and evolving risks.
  • Introduce new training technologies and methods (e.g., VR, e-learning).
  • Collaborate with safety teams, operational leaders, and external agencies.
  • Provide expert advice on emergency preparedness and response strategies.
  • Support actual emergency responses when required, providing leadership or technical expertise.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute to lessons learned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE) alongside advanced technical rescue qualifications (Fire, Confined Space, Heights, ALS) that meet standards for high-risk mining environments
  • Cert III or IV in Public Safety (Firefighting/Emergency Operations) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of active emergency response experience, with at least 3 years specifically in a high-hazard mining environment (Open Pit or Underground).
  • Beyond technical "boots-on-the-ground" skills, the trainer must master Incident Command Systems (ICS) and scenario-based drill design to ensure the site can transition seamlessly from normal operations to emergency mode.

The above role is Hidden Valley Site based.
