This is an opportunity for an HR professional who wants to work close to the business-partnering directly with operational leaders, understanding workforce challenges and translating business priorities into practical people solutions.
Reporting to the HR & Talent Development Manager, you will support leaders across the Momase region to strengthen leadership effectiveness, build workforce capability, improve employee performance and engagement, and proactively manage people-related risks.
The opportunity:

As an HR Business Partner, you will be expected to understand the operational environment, build trusted relationships with leaders and use your HR expertise, judgement and workforce insights to influence better people and business outcomes.
You will play an important role across the entire employee lifecycle-from workforce planning and recruitment through to performance, talent development, employee relations, organisational change and succession.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate business priorities and workforce challenges into practical people plans and HR solutions.
- Provide trusted, evidence-based advice to leaders on workforce, organisational and employee matters.
- Coach and challenge leaders to strengthen leadership practices, accountability and people management.
- Support talent reviews, succession planning, critical-role pipelines and workforce capability development.
- Partner with Learning & Development on development plans, leadership programs and targeted capability initiatives.
- Strengthen performance management, objective setting, accountability and continuous feedback.
- Provide advice and support on employee relations, grievances, disciplinary matters, investigations and workplace conflict.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and hiring managers on workforce requirements, recruitment priorities and quality of hire.
- Support effective onboarding, internal mobility and retention of critical talent.
- Ensure HR practices remain aligned with company policy and applicable PNG employment legislation.
- Use HR data and workforce analytics to identify trends, risks and opportunities and support evidence-based decision making.
- Support organisational change, restructuring, growth initiatives and change communication.
- Reinforce Islands Petroleum's commitment to safety, employee wellbeing and sustainable workforce practices.
What we're looking for
We are looking for an HR professional who can operate confidently with managers and employees while maintaining sound judgement, credibility and professionalism.
You will ideally bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organisational Psychology or a related discipline.
- A relevant HR professional qualification or certification would be advantageous.
- 5-7 years of progressive HR experience, including HR Business Partnering or HR Advisory experience.
- Experience supporting an operational, industrial, logistics, retail, fuel distribution, petroleum, mining or similarly complex environment.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with operational managers and business leaders.
- Strong practical experience across employee relations, performance management, workforce planning and organisational development.
- Experience using HR information systems, workforce data and people analytics to support decision making.
You'll be well suited to this role if you can…
- Think commercially - understand what the business is trying to achieve and translate that into practical workforce solutions.
- Build credibility with leaders - become a trusted adviser who can coach, influence and appropriately challenge.
- Navigate complex people matters - provide balanced, consistent and practical advice while managing organisational and employee risk.
- Use data to tell the workforce story - move beyond transactional reporting and use people insights to support better decisions.
- Develop capability for the future - help strengthen leadership pipelines, succession coverage, internal mobility and employee development.
- Lead through change - support managers and employees through organisational growth, restructuring and operational change.
If you are an experienced HR professional who enjoys being close to operations, working with leaders and turning people challenges into practical business solutions, we would like to hear from you.
