About the Role:


We are seeking an experienced HSE Superintendent to lead health, safety, and environmental operations on a major oil and gas project in Papua New Guinea. In this hands-on, rotational role, you will manage a team of HSE professionals, coordinate with contractors, and ensure all activities are carried out safely and in compliance with company and industry standards.


You will champion HSE culture on-site, oversee risk assessments, emergency preparedness, incident management, and permit-to-work systems, while promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a challenging, high-stakes environment where your expertise directly impacts personnel safety, environmental protection, and project success.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Lead HSE operations, liaising with contractors and managing HSE teams, including Officers, PTW Coordinators, Fire Team Leaders, and ERT.
  • Ensure all activities comply with HSE rules, regulations, and industry standards, prioritizing personnel safety and environmental protection.
  • Promote and strengthen HSE culture on-site through awareness campaigns, training, and leadership by example.
  • Oversee risk assessments, Permit to Work (PTW) system, and management of Downgraded Situations (DGS) and derogations.
  • Organize and conduct HSE audits, life-saving checks, inspections, and emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Manage incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and continuous HSE improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain operational readiness of safety equipment, emergency teams, and HSE boards; ensure all personnel are trained and compliant.
  • Prepare and deliver HSE reports, meetings, and briefings to management; keep leadership fully informed on site HSE matters.
  • Support RSES in implementing safe operations and building a robust HSE culture across the project.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as HSE Superintendent.
  • Minimum 10 years of site experience in HSE.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in an Oil and Gas company.
  • Technical education of minimum 3 years.
