Position Title: HVAC Design Engineer/Estimator

Location: Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea

Position Summary

The HVAC Design Engineer & Estimator is responsible for designing, estimating, and preparing competitive tenders for commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical services projects. The role combines engineering design with commercial estimating to ensure projects are technically compliant, financially viable, and delivered within budget.

The successful candidate will prepare HVAC system designs, perform engineering calculations, develop material take-offs, prepare quotations and tenders, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

HVAC Design

• Design commercial and residential HVAC systems.
• Perform cooling and heating load calculations.
• Design ductwork, ventilation, chilled water, refrigerant piping, and condensate drainage systems.
• Select appropriate HVAC equipment, including:
• VRV/VRF Systems
• Split Systems
• Package Units
• Chillers
• Air Handling Units (AHUs)
• Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
• Ventilation Systems
• Commercial Refrigeration Systems
• Produce equipment schedules and technical specifications.
• Prepare HVAC layouts, schematics, and shop drawings using AutoCAD and Revit (where applicable).
• Ensure designs comply with project specifications and applicable standards.

Estimating

• Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, subcontractors, freight, plant, and equipment.
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs.
• Obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Prepare detailed project budgets and cost summaries.
• Develop competitive tenders and quotations.
• Maintain estimating databases and pricing schedules.

Qualifications

Essential

• Minimum 3 years' experience in HVAC design.
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems.
• Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
• Commitment to continuous improvement.
• Drivers Licence
