ABOUT THE BALIMO COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL CAMPUS

The Balimo College educational campus was established by the Sustainable Development Program (SDP) in 2019 to build the education and health standards and pathways for the Western Province. The campus delivers tertiary qualifications in teaching under the Balimo Teachers College program; provides secondary school certification and GPA upgrades through Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE); supports schools in the area through E-Learning programs, and in 2024 opened the Hon. Roy Biyama Balimo Academy and in 2025 a nursing college.

The Balimo College Educational Campus is funded by SDP and managed by the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF).

Hon. Roy Biyama Balimo Academy (the Academy)

The Academy was established in 2024 with 150 students and has grown rapidly since to 400+ students. It caters for all levels of schooling (K-12), including Early Childhood Education, Primary Schooling and Secondary Schooling, and aims to grow to support 1,000 students by the end of 2028. The Academy fosters an environment conducive to quality teaching and learning, being inclusive and responsive to additional needs and removing educational barriers for local students to learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

KTF is an Australian international aid and development organisation working in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

We work with people and communities to improve the lives and futures of Papua New Guineans. We do this by: assisting remote and rural communities with access to elementary and primary education; improving access to quality and accessible healthcare; improving equality and access to sustainable income-generation opportunities, especially for women; and by fostering the next generation of leaders.

KTF is a member of the Australian Council for International Development and is accredited with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Australian Not-for-Profit Cooperation Program.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The ICT Coordinator oversees, manages and maintains the technology infrastructure and computer systems of the Academy. They also provide technical support to staff and students, ensuring that all technological tools and resources are accessible and functioning effectively. The ICT Coordinator collaborates with other departments to integrate technology into curriculum and instructional practices. They also monitor and evaluate the Academy’s technology usage and make recommendations for upgrades or enhancements. The ICT Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of technology at the Academy.

The ICT Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Upholding and supporting the Principal and the teaching team in delivering the vision for the Academy;
  • Exercising discernment and care in assisting the Principal and teaching team with supporting staff, students, and parents;
  • Supporting the development and empowerment of the teaching staff, cultivate and strengthen a positive teaching, learning, and working environment for all staff and students at every level of operation;
  • Supporting the Principal with operational logistics for the Academy ensuring smooth day-to-day operations;
  • Ensuring that IT support and services are available to staff and students.

Responsibilities

Vision, Mission and Culture

  • Upholding and supporting the Principal and the teaching team in delivering the vision for the Academy;
  • Exercising discernment and care in assisting the Principal and teaching team with supporting staff, students, and parents;
  • Supporting the development and empowerment of the teaching staff, cultivate and strengthen a positive teaching, learning, and working environment for all staff and students at every level of operation;
  • Supporting the Principal with operational logistics for the Academy ensuring smooth day-to-day operations;
  • Ensuring that IT support and services are available to staff and students.

Administration

  • Be familiar with the Academy administration procedures;
  • Attend all PD meetings, attend staff meetings and record details if required by the Principal for wider circulation to staff;
  • Be familiar with the Academy calendar and attend all calendared meetings in a timely manner;
  • Ensure personal full compliance of Academy rules and behavioural expectations for yourself and your students;
  • Alert the Principal to any maintenance requirements that you are aware of;
  • Alert the Principal to any issues of Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures on site.

Teaching & Learning

  • Actively and pro-actively enhance the quality of teaching and learning;
  • Promote the use of ICT and of developments in Digital Learning Technologies and actively support the students to enable their studies with the support of ICT;
  • Engage in developing ICT opportunities with technologies and support utilising technologies for implementation in the classroom.

Enrolment of Students

  • Support the Admin Coordinator and the Deputy Principal with all admissions requirements.

Professional Development

  • Attend professional development training seminars to keep abreast of current educational trends;
  • Attend and be actively engaged in appropriate professional development and facilitate staff professional development activities;
  • Keep up to date with current educational thought and practice;
  • Support the Principal to implement the Academy’s professional learning and development policy where it aligns to your specialisation.

YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge of:

  • Technical concepts, such as computer hardware, software, networking, operating systems, database management, and cybersecurity;
  • Different types of technology devices, such as servers, routers, and other infrastructure components;
  • Software and applications;
  • How to effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning processes and the curriculum;
  • Various educational technology tools, digital resources, and online learning platforms;
  • Troubleshooting and technical support;
  • Data management practices, including data security, privacy regulations and data backup and recovery;
  • A range of educational theories, techniques, and methodologies of personnel and management;
  • Principles and practices of administration and supervision.

Ability to:

  • Provide coordination and direction to staff;
  • Understand, troubleshoot, and support various technology-related issues;
  • To communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner, both orally and in writing;
  • Understand the technological needs and challenges of different stakeholders, such as staff, students and other partners;
  • Design and deliver training programs;
  • Analyse problems, make decisions, and be responsible for those decisions;
  • Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, procedures and statistics;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
  • Operate a computer to a high level of competence and other office equipment;
  • Meet schedules and time-lines;
  • Work independently with little direction;
  • Plan and organise work.

Formal Qualifications:

  • Qualifications in a relevant field, such as computer science, information technology, or a related discipline;
  • Successful professional experience in a similar role will be well regarded.

This position may require travel within PNG from time to time.
