About the Role

The University is seeking a qualified and dedicated ICT Network Support Technician to join the ICT Services team based at Vudal Campus, East New Britain Province.

This role supports the design, maintenance, and reliability of the University’s ICT network infrastructure across all campuses. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting connectivity issues, maintaining performance and security of network systems, and performing rigging-related tasks in ICT infrastructure installation. Some after-hours support may be required to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues to ensure reliable connectivity.
• Provide technical support to staff and students for network-related problems.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of network upgrades and expansions.
• Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and incident logs.
• Implement and maintain access controls, security measures, and monitoring tools.
• Collaborate with other ICT staff to support server infrastructure and ICT services.
• Participate in ICT projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide after-hours support during system outages or scheduled maintenance.
• Perform rigging tasks related to ICT installations, including antenna mounting, cable runs, and securing equipment at heights in accordance with safety standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in ICT, Computer Science, or Electronic & Communications Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Certification in Basic Rigging and Working at Heights.
• Basic First Aid knowledge for on-site emergencies.
• Ability to inspect and certify rigging equipment prior to use.

Experience:

• 1–3 years of experience in ICT or network support roles is desirable.
• Exposure to a university or higher education environment will be highly regarded.
• Familiarity with network protocols, IP addressing, and diagnostic tools.
• Experience in rigging and working at heights is advantageous.
• Understanding of OH&S standards and practices.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in LAN/WAN technologies, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN configuration.
• Ability to configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, and wireless networks.
• Experience with network monitoring tools and utilities.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
• Skilled in using rigging and power tools safely and efficiently.

• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
• CompTIA Network+
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals or equivalent

Salary Range:

K30,495 – K37,276 per annum
