Job Description for IT Assistant Lecturer

Position Title: IT Assistant Lecturer
Department: School of Information Technology
Reports To: Academic Coordinator / Head of College
Location: IBS College of TVET, Mt Eriama, 11-mile campus, Sogeri Road
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview:

The IT assistant Lecturer supports the delivery of quality education in the field of Information Technology by assisting in the preparation, delivery, and assessment of coursework. The role involves providing guidance to students, supporting academic activities, and contributing to the development of a dynamic and innovative IT curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching and Learning:
    • Assist in preparing and delivering IT lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions.
    • Provide individual or group support to students to enhance their learning experience.
    • Develop and update teaching materials, including lesson plans, lecture notes, and assessments.
  2. Curriculum Development:
    • Collaborate with senior lecturers and the Head of Department to review and improve the IT curriculum.
    • Stay updated on advancements in IT to incorporate new technologies and methodologies into the curriculum.
  3. Student Support:
    • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
    • Assess and evaluate students’ progress through exams, assignments, and practical projects.
  4. Research and Innovation:
    • Support research projects and encourage student participation in research activities.
    • Engage in professional development and contribute to IT innovations within the department.
  5. Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and assessments.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other college activities.
  6. Community Engagement:
    • Support initiatives that promote IT education within the wider community.
    • Participate in workshops, seminars, and outreach programs as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is essential.
    • A Master’s degree (or working towards one) is highly desirable.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1–3 years of teaching or industry experience in IT.
    • Familiarity with teaching at the tertiary or vocational education level is an advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C++).
    • Knowledge of database systems, networking, cybersecurity, or software development.
    • Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technology tools lie Moodle and ERP
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
    • Team-oriented with a passion for teaching and mentoring students.
