IT Business Analyst

The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited by the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

The business analyst is primarily responsible for identifying areas where Pacific Adventist University can increase its efficiency and strengthen business processes. The business analyst will often work closely with others throughout the business hierarchy to communicate their findings and help implement changes. This role is responsible for understanding the business needs and align the applications and systems to meet the strategic goals of the Pacific Adventist University specified in the University’s strategic plan. The business analyst will do data analytics using surveys, reports and interviews to assess processes, determine requirements, and deliver data-driven recommendations and reports to executives and stakeholders but balance them against what’s technologically feasible and financially and functionally reasonable that lead to business improvements.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Creating a detailed business analysis using surveys, reports and interviews to outline problems, opportunities, and solutions for the business to achieve its goals.
  • Evaluating business processes/systems and identifying potential areas for improvements by doing qualitative and quantitative analysis using known methods.
  • Budgeting and forecasting for business savings.
  • Collaborating and monitoring application development with regular checks on requirements in collaboration with the project team.
  • Validating and documenting business requirements.
  • Collaborate with financial reporting and I.T teams to develop initiatives and strategies that optimize cost.
  • Defining business requirements and reporting them back to stakeholders.
  • Manage change of processes/systems and procedures and tracking results of the changes after implementation using user feedback.

About you:

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology/Information System or Business, Management/accounting, Statistics or preferably MBA.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the role.
  • A history of leading and supporting successful projects.
  • Practicing Adventist Ethos.
  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Consultative skills.
  • Facilitation skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Being detail-oriented and capable of delivering a high level of accuracy.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of business structure.
  • Cost-benefit analysis.
  • Processes modelling and mapping.
  • Understanding of networks, databases, and other related technology.
