Position: IT Systems Engineer

Location: Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

Employment Type: Full-time

Overview: TE (PNG) Ltd is seeking an experienced and proactive IT Systems Engineer to join our Port Moresby-based team. This role will work closely with our internal IT team on both internal infrastructure and client-facing projects. You will be responsible for overseeing IT systems across servers, storage, networks, workstations, phone systems, and wireless infrastructure, as well as managing staff, supporting project delivery, and training junior team members.

This is a hands-on role, best suited to someone with strong technical experience, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to take ownership of systems and lead improvements across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain internal and customer-facing infrastructure (servers, networks, wireless, endpoints).
  • Administer Windows Server and Linux-based systems.
  • Support and maintain workstation environments (primarily Windows OS).
  • Configure, secure, and monitor networks (Cisco, FortiGate, Peplink).
  • Deploy and manage wireless systems (Cisco, Aruba, Peplink, Cambium).
  • Oversee network and systems monitoring and implement performance improvements.
  • Administer and support IP phone systems (Yeastar, Yealink).
  • Lead and contribute to change management and systems documentation.
  • Supervise and mentor junior IT staff, providing training and support where required.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of internal and customer projects.
  • Provide reporting to senior management on system health, upgrades, incidents, and improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, with more than 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in a similar IT administration or infrastructure support role.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, firewalls, and routing.
  • Experience with Windows Server and Linux server environments.
  • Experience with server storage (NAS, SAN)
  • Hands-on knowledge of wireless deployments and diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with system and network monitoring tools.
  • Comfortable leading small teams and mentoring junior staff.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • A team player with strong problem-solving ability and initiative.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Familiarity with remote management tools and ITIL principles.
  • Previous experience supporting commercial clients or multi-site environments.
  • Relevant certifications (Cisco, Fortinet, Microsoft, etc.) are an advantage.
