IT Technical Officer

The IT Division is seeking to recruit a qualified IT Technical Officer based in Port Moresby. This position will provide 2nd and 3rd level support to the IT Help Desk team, ensuring the smooth operation of IT services and infrastructure. This role involves troubleshooting complex technical issues, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the continuous improvement of IT processes.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level technical support for IT Help Desk team.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Manage and maintain IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and applications.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to implement and support new technologies.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles.
  • Mentor and train junior IT support staff.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Participate in IT projects and initiatives as required.
  • Perform regular system audits and generate reports on system performance and security.

a) Administer IT Infrastructure, Security, and Operations

  • Administer Company IT Infrastructure, Security, and Operations.
  • Analyse requirements, design efficient network and systems.
  • Monitor network and systems to detect unauthorized access attempts and security breaches.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and audit implemetation.
  • Develop and update IT policies and procedures.
  • Provide IT awareness training to staff members.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the security of network infrastructure.
  • Deploy rapid response solutions to Security Concerns
  • Informing the company about the security incidents as soon as possible

b)Perform IT Operational Support duties

  • Prioritise allocated tickets based upon priority and due dates
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, network and other IT issues raised in tickets
  • Setup new users in active directory
  • Create email accounts
  • Setup and configure IT end-user systems hardware/software
  • Provide recommendations for hardware upgrades and replacements
  • Run cabling
  • Record support activities against tickets and maintain SLAs.
  • Perform IT Project duties as allocated by GM IT
  • Document processes, monitoring and housekeeping requirements
  • Ensure users follow correct support processes
  • Provide IT orientation to new users
  • Keep IT offices clean and neat
  • Ensure documentation of diagrams and charts required
  • Complete hand over logs when last shift of the day detailing any issues or key priorities for the first staff member on duty.
  • Communication of staff movements.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant professional qualifications (Networking, Security and Server Systems)
  • At least 5 years work experience.
  • CompTIA or equivalent
