LABORATORY SUPERVISOR
Location: Porgera Mine Site, Enga Province, Papua New Guinea

SGS PNG Limited is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at the Porgera Mine Site. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader who is passionate about safety, quality, and operational excellence in a laboratory environment.
As the Laboratory Supervisor, you will lead and support laboratory personnel, ensure efficient assay throughput, maintain high-quality standards, and foster a safe and productive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory staff.
- Perform laboratory bench work to support sample throughput when required.
- Review and issue assay reports, ensuring quality requirements are met.
- Coordinate laboratory activities and scheduling with Mine and Mill operations.
- Manage laboratory consumables, chemicals, and equipment.
- Ensure laboratory instruments and glassware are properly calibrated and maintained.
- Participate in continuous improvement and technical enhancement projects.
- Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
- Conduct safety inspections, toolbox meetings, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with SGS quality systems and client requirements.
What We Are Looking For
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Chemistry, Applied Science, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of laboratory experience, preferably within the mining industry.
- Experience supervising laboratory teams and managing laboratory operations.
- Hands-on experience in:
- Fire Assay
- Wet Chemistry
- Sample Preparation
- LECO Analysis
- Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 laboratory standards.
- Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and laboratory databases.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.

- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Additional Requirements
- Current First Aid Certificate (preferred).
- Ability to work in a remote mining environment.
